Ed Sheeran lights up the stage at Chicago concert

“I See Fire,” “The A Team,” “Lego House.” These are just some of the songs that Ed Sheeran performed on Tuesday, September 16 at the Chicago show of his first headlining tour.

The concert started with the English band Rudimental, who performed 8 songs. The crowd seemed to really enjoy them, and they got the crowd excited for Sheeran.

15 minutes after Rudimental, Sheeran came out on stage, dressed in a simple button up shirt and jeans, and without saying a word, he started his set with “I’m A Mess.” Without even thinking about it, the audience started singing along, word for word.

Sheeran seemed really comfortable on stage, and smiled every time his fans cheered between verses.

Sheeran’s setlist ranged from songs on both of his albums: + and X. He played chart toppers like “Give Me Love” and “Sing.” He also played some of his less known songs, like “Runaway” and “Bloodstream.”

Sheeran threw some surprises in as well, playing his song “Thinking Out Loud” on an electric guitar for the first time on tour. He also played the songs “Nina” and “All Of The Stars” for the first time.

Sheeran also mashed up his song “Don’t” with Chris Brown’s “Loyal” and Blackstreet’s “No Diggity.”

The whole setlist was acoustic, just Sheeran and his guitar. While switching between three guitars, the tv screens behind Sheeran continuously switched between showing him playing, and random blips that dealt with his song.

Sheeran did his best to involve the audience throughout the show, asking them to sing and shout along with him. At one point during the show, Sheeran asked the audience to get as quiet as possible and help him sing “Give Me Love” as a giant crescendo.

Sheeran’s voice sounded almost identical to his recorded music and although the concert wasn’t a big, up beat rave, the atmosphere was just as exciting.

The audience left the show singing, smiling, and wishing that there was more.

Overall, Ed Sheeran provided an amazing, and exciting atmosphere on a Tuesday night.
